Obituary for Hugh Ross Grimshaw

GRIMSHAW, Hugh Ross - age 83 of Nakile Home for Special Care, and formerly of Chebogue Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away on March 19, 2022, at Nakile with his family by his side. Hugh served in the Royal Canadian Navy before working the next 39 years at Cook’s Dairy until his retirement. He was also the proud owner and operator of his family business, Grims Trees, where he poured many hours of hard work and love into the growth of fir trees. His tree lot was open to family and friends with many tractor rides, cookouts of tea, tomato soup and grilled cheese with the right sprinkle of fir gum or needles and always served with a smile and a chuckle. He hosted many Arcadia School primary class trips where he helped educate the youth about the environment and the need for trees not only as the centerpieces of Christmas decorations. His heart was about giving and supporting his community for both the old and the young. He donated many trees through the years to both Yarmouth and Argyle Municipalities and continues to donate one to Plymouth School. His passion, however, was his family and friends both near and far and while his children were young he spent many hours on the road with a van full of students/athletes traveling around the Maritimes. Although he had only 3 children, he had the love and admiration of friends, family and his lifelong Navy families, who referred to him as their Uncle Hughie. His love of his children and supporting them throughout all their endeavours, with Ann by his side, was only amplified when his grandchildren entered the world of Hughie. He couldn't be prouder and would tell all that would listen of his love for them and displayed their accomplishments and birthdays on the windows of the homestead for all to see. Hughie also loved to golf and was a long time member and supporter of the Yarmouth Links and built his own links to hit a few long balls in his fields after the summer hay had been carried out. Hughie’s love of life and zest to engage conversation and support others will continue to be a legacy that will shine through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving daughters, Torey Grimshaw (James Surette); Mitzy Grimshaw-Poole(Gordon Poole); Lori (Gordie) Muise; brother, Ernest Grimshaw(Ottawa); grandchildren, Hughstin Grimshaw-Surette, Hudson Grimshaw-Surette, Harmon Grimshaw-Surette; Brigham (Candice) Poole; Maxwell Poole; Matthew(Allison) Muise, Brittni (Matthew) McGuinty. Besides his parents, Hugh was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Euphemia “Ann” Grimshaw, in 2019; sisters, Marion (Arnold) Cook; Dorothy E. (Mel) Doucette; and sister-in-law, Charlene Grimshaw. Cremation has taken place under the care of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation or funeral by request. Interment will be in Chebogue Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Yarmouth S.P.C.A, Nakile Home for Special Care, or a charity of your choice.
