Obituary for Herbert "Doug" Trask

Herbert Douglas "Doug" Trask

Age 95, passed away June 29, 2020, in The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, NS. He was born in Sandford, Yarmouth County, NS, on Aug 13, 1924, to Herbert and Sadie (Thurston) Trask. He served in the Marine Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II in Montreal and Dartmouth. After the war, he returned to his life's occupation as a fisherman.

He enjoyed singing. He was an avid sportsman, sports fisherman, a Provincial award-winning skeet shooter, and he played ball on the Sandford Baseball team. He loved going on hunting trips to his camp. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing pool in the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Maitland and meeting friends for coffee in Yarmouth. He was a member of the Sandford United Baptist Church and the Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants.

He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Hazel (Smith) and sisters, Evelyn and Helen. He is survived by his children Cheryl (Herb), Brian (Kim) and Kendrick (Stephen); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Elizabeth Landers, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is thankful to his local caregivers and NS Home Care, who enabled him to stay at home for several years and to The Veterans Place and The Meadows for their care the past few years. Memorial donations may be made to Sandford Cemetery, Sandford United Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 2 P.M with Rev. Scott MacDonald and Rev. Robert Baker officiating.
