Obituary for Helen Joyce Gavel

Gavel, Helen Joyce, Born February 28, 1937 - Died October 22, 2022. Born in South Ohio in 1937, the eldest daughter of Lyndon and Margaret (Brittain) Cann. A bookkeeper by trade, she graduated from The Old Parade Street Vocational School in early 1950.
Her first job was a bookkeeper for Guests Hardware on Main Street, Yarmouth. She worked there until Mr. Guest sold the store. Helen took a job in Dr Fulde's Clinic in Tusket for many years. Her last job was part-time for Yarmouth Correctional Jail, Main Street, Yarmouth.
Helen was a "people person." If you came to her house, she would ask if you wanted a cup of tea or something to eat. She loved her old couch in her kitchen. A victim of migraine headaches, she spent many hours on the couch with her head covered as the light made her headaches worse.
Helen dearly loved her "Friendly Neighbours" club that did charity work for local institutions. Her "Secret Pal" was a great favorite; she was always trying to figure out who it was.
Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald; sons, Timothy (Cathy) and Peter; grandchildren, Heidi, Mason, Erica, Sydney, Ryan and Katie; great grandson, Simon, along with many nieces and nephews.
Helen is also survived by her brothers, Malcolm and John. Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Bryce, sisters, Sylvia, Beverly and Donna.
As per Helen's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside memorial will be held in the Highland Plains Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the “Friendly Neighbors” Society.
Helen was loved by all and will live on in the memories of many friends and family.
