Obituary for Harold Smith

Harold Smith, age 97 went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 26/22 at the Yarmouth Hospital surrounded by his family.

Harold was the son of Harvey and Ena (Newell) Smith and grew up on Cape Sable Island. After his marriage and a year and a half overseas, he moved to Central Argyle where he resided for nearly 70 years.
He leaves behind 4 daughters Judy (Dwayne), Linda (Bob), Joan (Stephen), Colleen and 2 sons Roger (Gaile), Gary (Rhoda) and a sister Bernice also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his wife Erma in 2017, as well as brothers Edgar and Bernard, sisters, Ellen and Agusta and a great grandson Grayson.
In his early years he worked as a building contractor. In his 40’s, he sold Fuller Brush door to door and eventually was the Maritime manager for Familex Products. In his 60’s, he left secular work and spent his remaining years pursuing his passion as a preacher of the Gospel. Many remember his daily radio broadcast over CJLS and a weekly column “Bible Answer” published in our local papers. Harold wrote several gospel tracts as well as authoring a book. His online ministry focused on short Bible Courses with students from around the world. His gospel ministry has taken him across Canada and most states on the east coast of the USA. Even in his last few weeks every person that he would meet received a gospel track. Only Heaven knows the number of people that his ministry touched.

Our family would like to thank the staff of New Beginnings during his stay there and the nurses of 4 East, Yarmouth Hospital during his final week. Your care and kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be at 12:30 PM and the service at 2 PM on Wednesday, Nov 30th at Sweeny’s Funeral Home with Pastor Raymond Pitcher officiating. A reception will follow at Jacob’s Loft located above Sweeny’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made at Sweeny's Funeral Home to “Hands Across the Sea” a children’s orphanage in Haiti.

A live stream will be available for viewing on Sweeny's Funeral Home website.
