Obituary for Gertrude Faye Star

Star, Gertrude Faye – age 96, of Treasured Memories, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022. Born in Montreal on January 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Max and Sarah Laufer. Gertrude was the most devoted and caring mother who adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a housewife who took great pride in raising and caring for her family. Gertrude was a staunch advocate and fundraiser for the mentally challenged. In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and entertaining her friends and family. She was also a pillar in the Jewish community in Yarmouth. She is survived by her daughter Rosalie (Victor) Indig; sons, Phil (Francine) Star; Wayne Star, all of Yarmouth; brother, Saul (Barbara) Laufer, Montreal; grandchildren, Brian (Sandy) Indig, Steven (Mattea Wintre) Indig, both of Toronto; great-grandchildren, Dani, Roxie and Phoenix; as well as lifelong friend Esther Davis, Montreal; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Danny Star; and brothers, Phil (Edith) and Moe (Eglie). A funeral service will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, at 10 A.M. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rabbi Gary Karlin officiating. Interment will follow in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations in memory can be made to YACRO Foundation (6 Thurston St, Yarmouth, NS B5A 4K5). Proof of double vaccination will be required to attend the service.
