Obituary for Floris Janette Landers

Landers, Floris Janette, 84 of Sandford/ Yarmouth passed away peacefully on July 26,2022. Born in Yarmouth ,daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Greene) Landers. Floris was a member of the former Sandford Wesleyan Church. She graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School, Burridge Vocation School (Secretarial), Victoria General School of Nursing (RN) 1959, Dalhousie-teaching in school of nursing 1962, Eastern Nazarene College (BA) 1966. From there she taught nursing in Yarmouth, Sydney and Halifax. She also taught elementary school for 23 years in both Halifax and Yarmouth. Floris enjoyed the flowers around her home in Sanford and baking. She baked goods for her neighbors, family and friends, and was especially famous for her dinner rolls, sweet breads and cakes. In her retirement she enjoyed acquiring and organizing family histories on the Landers- Bower families and Greene- Nesbit families. As a cancer survivor she joined others in raising money for cancer research and assistance. Floris took great pride and interest in her nieces and nephews; she quilted a blanket for each one of them. She is survived by her brothers, Robert” Bob” (Amy) and Arnold “Burgess” (June) Landers, as well as many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by brother, Harold “Burpee”, sister-in-law, Joan “Delores” Landers; nieces, Shelley and Elizabeth; nephew, Harold. Visitation will take place Thursday, July 28,2022 from 6-8 p.m. in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, July 29,2022 at 1 p.m. also in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Barry Vernon officiating. Interment to take place in the Sandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Sandford Cemetery of charity of choice. There will be a webcast on the Sweeny’s Funeral Home website for those who are unable to attend.
The family would like to thank the nurses of the 4th floor in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital as well as the staff at The Meadows Home for Special Care for their care and support during Floris’s stay with them.
