Mi’kitu‘s darling sweetheart
Evelyn Marie Francis passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms on March 2, 2023. An unexpected miracle, she arrived in this world on March 26, 2020. Evelynjij, “She who comes from the stars,” spent most of her short life bringing joy to all those around her. Though her time with family was short, she touched many lives and was loved deeply by people from the four directions.
Evelynjij was a miracle baby, we never thought her mom could have babies on March 26, 2020 she made herself known to the world.
Evelynjij loved Rachel, Moana, Dora and educational shows, she could speak five languages, Mi’kmaq, English, French, Spanish and sign language. She could say her abc’s front and backwards. She knew her colours, she loved to clap, she loved her music and counting. She loved finger puppets, her favourite food was bananas, peanut butter and jam, bear paws, yogurt, gold fish, yops, splash water and she loved the cold. Evelynjij was a happy baby, she achieved so much on this earth, more then some adults and for a baby under 3. Her Mom and Dad loved her with all their being, we all loved her.
She is missed and know Evelynjij made an impact on all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her parents, Marilynn-Leigh Francis and Shane Normey, her grandparents (maternal), Marilyn Francis and Terrance Louis Paul; her grandmother (paternal), Donna Higson. She is also survived by her two older brothers, Joshua Oakes and Andrew Oakes , and her uncle James Higson.

Her family cherishes her memory as the brief gift it was, but she has returned to her ancestors amongst the stars where she will guide us from above. She is predeceased by her great-grandmothers, Evelyn Lucy Francis (Isaac), Edna Johnson Paul, and great grandfathers: James Ward and Louis Paul, Papa Greg Francis and her Uncle DBO.
The family is hosting a Salitay, at the Rose Purdy Centre in Yarmouth, beginning 3pm, on Monday, March 6, 2023, for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the IWK Children’s Hospital, Respiratory Unit and/or the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Children’s Ward would be greatly appreciated
