Obituary

Atwood, Elwin Esmond- age 92, of The Villa Acadienne, formerly of Deerfield, passed away July 8, 2019. Born in Atwood’s Brook he was a son to the late Esmond and Marguerite (Nickerson) Atwood. Elwin was born and brought up in Atwood’s Brook, Shelburne Co., until he met and married Shirley Jeffery in 1952, moving to the family home in Deerfield. He worked in the fishing industry, drove a school bus and was an engineer on the M.V. Bluenose from 1968 until his retirement. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughter Mona (Earl) Flemming, Kentville; Deborah (Kenneth) Power, Pembroke; Heather ( Fred) Peppard, Pleasant Valley; Holly (Allan ) Gould, Gardener’s Mill; Nora (Robert) Fitzsimmons, New Brunswick; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister in law June Atwood, Ontario; nephew Gregory Atwood, Ontario and niece Joan Romolo, Ontario. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley; sister Helen Perry and brother Lester Atwood. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 7-9 pm. in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, July 12,2019 at 2pm. from the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Cannell and Jonathan Cann officiating. Burial to follow in the Lakeview Cemetery, Kemptville. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Church. We the family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Hynes and the staff of 3 east for their caring and compassion.
