WALKER (Spinney), Elizabeth Diane
Age 80, of Central Argyle, passed away peacefully June 7th, at The Villa St. Joseph Du Lac, Yarmouth, with family by her side.
Born in Yarmouth, she was the eldest daughter of the late Murray and Elizabeth Spinney of Central Argyle.
Diane moved to Halifax after completing High School to pursue her career, where she met her future husband, the late Donald H Walker (Bancroft, Ont). Diane and Don built a house together and settled in Lower Sackville, raising their two sons, David and Donny.
Diane worked for many years as a bookkeeper with Mack Maritime and was praised for her professionalism and attention to detail. Later in life Diane would return to Central Argyle where she began her own bookkeeping business, servicing many local fisherman and businesses. Diane enjoyed the work, but most of all, she especially loved the relationships she built with the fisherman and hearing their stories. In addition to her career as a bookkeeper, Diane also served on the Board of Directors of the Coastal Credit Union and served as a returning officer on many federal elections.
Diane was an active community volunteer all her life, first in Sackville with the Canadian Association of Community Living and Scouts Canada and later in life with The Pubnico and Argyle Library, and the Argyle Abubptic Festival. In her beloved community of Argyle, if there was a community event happening, Diane was always helping or participating in some way.
Diane was well loved by all for her friendly and talkative nature and quick sense of humour. She was a master storyteller, an amateur playwright and thespian, family genealogist, expert crossword puzzle solver, a voracious reader, and a formidable card player. Diane had “a half glass full” view on life and always made the best of every situation, even when life threw challenges her way.
Diane will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sons David Walker (Pam) of Melbourne, Ontario, and Don Walker (Patricia McManus), Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Brandon, Mitchell, Felicia (Steven Johnston), Haley, Carlina, Kieran, Claire (Cyril Camba) and Aidan; great grandchildren Elliette, Julian, and Emery; sisters Karen Conrad and Nancy Morton (Red), sister-in-law Sharon Spinney; many nieces and nephews.
