Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Georgina Landry

Landry, Elizabeth “Betty” Georgina – age 85, passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on February 5, 2022 with her family by her side. Born in Yarmouth on October 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mable (Boudreau) Theriault. Betty was no stranger to hard work. She worked at Harris Quick and Tasty for over 25 years, and at Villa St Joseph du Lac to help support her family. She was the ultimate caregiver and never thought twice about helping her family, friends, neighbors, or anyone else in need. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to spoil them. If she had one fault, it was that she couldn’t say “no”. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed Bingo, Frenchy shopping and going for drives with her family. In past years she was a long-time member of the Plymouth TOPS group, where she made many friends. Despite her Alzheimer’s Disease, her sense of humor sometimes still came through, and she still enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Charlene (James) Surette, Yarmouth; Shelley (Tony) Muise, Yarmouth; sons, Kevin (Donna) Landry, Chegoggin; George MacGillivary, Halifax; brothers, Alfie (Marion) Theriault, Yarmouth; Nelson (LucyAnn), Barrie, Ontario; sister, Donalda (Wayne) Johnstone, Halifax; grandchildren, Trevor, Aimee and Stacey Surette, Tyler and Cheryl Muise, Raven d’Entremont, Carter Landry, Miranda and Jared MacGillivary; step-grandson, John Brown; and ten great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Alcide Landry; sister, Lorraine Bourque; stepdaughter, Lorraine Landry-Brown; and brother Neil in infancy. A special thank you to all those who helped care for Betty over the past few months, especially Joanne Sisco and Gail Doucette for being there when extra help was needed. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Due to Covid-19, an invite-only visitation will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 7–9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held from St Ambrose Co-Cathedral on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 10 a.m., with Father Henry Smolanarrs officiating. Interment will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery following the service. The service will be live-streamed at http://www.stambroseyarmouth.ca/. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society, Hope for Wildlife or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
