Obituary for Elaine Margaret Ryan

Elaine Margaret Ryan, June 8th, 1940 -January 28th, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Elaine Margaret Ryan, Dayton, Nova Scotia, in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on January 28th, 2022. Mom passed away just 8 months after the passing of our father, Kenneth Ryan. Elaine was the daughter of the late James and Celeste (Muise) Amirault of Yarmouth.

Elaine was the manager of Sears in Barrington and then Yarmouth until her retirement. No one was ever a stranger to Elaine, and everyone she met became a lifelong friend. She had an infectious personality and did not shy away from being adventurous, even well into her elder years. She was young at heart, enjoying zip-lining, glider airplanes, fast boats, and jet-skiing. Mom had a passion for caregiving: caring for her parents, our father, her children and grandchildren. Elaine was proud to be a "Southender", with a heart of gold and a fierce conviction for treating everyone with respect and as an equal.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Ryan (Ann McDonald), London & Dartmouth; Mike (Kim) Ryan, Yarmouth; Kelly (Rick) Atkinson, Wedgeport. Cherished Grandchildren; Mallory, Chelsea, Christian, Kirk, Catheryn, Jack, Emma and Daniel. Brother; Gerald (Rhonda) Amirault, River John, special cousin/sister, Judith Jacquard, Wedgeport, and "Nova Scotia Parent" to Dr. Paul Cheevers and Dr. Janelle King. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Ryan and granddaughter, Megan Atkinson.

As per Elaine's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 4th at 2p.m., from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Reception in Jacob's Loft .Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Villa St Joseph du Lac. Online condolences may be made at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
