Obituary for Doris Mary MacNaughton

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Doris Mary MacNaughton (nee Walker), 81, announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, October 24th, 2019 at the Meadows Home for Special Care. She was dearly loved by pre-deceased husband Sidney MacNaughton, her children Mim (Al), Dan (Vicki), Chris (Sue), Lisa (Pierre) and family Bonnie (Tom), Eva (Sid), Annie, Charlie (Frances), Phillip (Joyce) and Jimmy. Doris treasured her grandchildren, Tryna (Mark), Kevin (Shelley), Nicole (Ryan), Jennifer (Jamie), Keal, Keira, Andrew, Jamie, Natalie (Brad) and Curtis; and great grandchildren Rachel, Lauren, Alexander, Aiden, Aynsley, Islay, Claire, Liam and Asher.

Doris was born in Bridgetown, NS to the late Newell Walker and Harriett (Bordon) Walker. After marrying her husband at the age of 19, they enjoyed raising their children across many communities throughout the Maritimes and Ottawa while following her husband’s RCMP career. Settling in Hebron in 1980, she entrenched herself in giving back to the community to serve those in need by devoting countless volunteer years to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Meals on Wheels, and the Yarmouth SPCA fundraising for the care of animals, to name a few. She was the recipient of several volunteer awards over these many years, and was most proud of having received the RCMP’s Second Man Award for her support roles in rural RCMP Detachments in the 1960’s.

Doris immensely enjoyed her many friends through master’s bridge, line dancing, golf, bowling groups, travel, Saturday morning yard sales and summers at the beach. Doris was a kind, warm and vibrant woman with infectious humour and beauty. Doris lived her life to the fullest in every hour of every day. Whether preparing for Christmas gatherings or planting daisies in her beautiful flower gardens, she was a solid rock and best friend to each of her children, teaching them to take the world be the tail for all it can offer and to be strong through all life’s trials and tribulations.

A special thank you to the staff of the Meadows Home for Special Care for the abundant compassion and care provided to Doris and her family during the past 4 years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Following her cremation, the family would like to invite her friends to join them in a Celebration of Life being held on Tuesday, October 29th at 1 pm at the Hebron Baptist Church in Hebron with a reception to follow at the church. Doris had a vibrant personality and the family encourages those attending her Celebration of Life to wear bright colors in her memory. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Yarmouth SPCA or charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made to sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook online at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
