Obituary for Doris Elizabeth Hanson

Hanson, Doris Elizabeth, 71, Yarmouth, passed away July 17, 2019. Born April 17, 1948 in Greenville, she was a daughter to the late Enos and Rosalie (Turner) Falls and a proud member of the Acadia First Nation. Doris moved to Halifax in 1969, starting her career at the Chronicle Herald and Standard Advertising from 1974-1999. Moving “home” in 1999 she began working at Acadia First Nation. She enjoyed walks, puzzles, cryptograms, sewing, she could take anything apart and fix it, animals, especially her baby Duke. In recent years she loved to learn about her culture and where she came from along with reconnecting with her childhood friends from Greenville. She is survived by her sons John (Joanne) Falls, Halifax; Corrie (Cheyenne Burke) Falls, Arcadia; step-daughters Debbie VanSoest, Alberta; Kathy Jourdain, Bedford; Robin Hanson, Digby; brothers Alfie Thompson, Ontario; Hallet (Barb) Turner, Greenville; Richard (Elaine) Falls, Halifax; Sydney Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; Perry (Susan) Falls, Edmonton; Danny (Rhonda) Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; Michael (Donna) Falls, Yarmouth; Bruce (Victoria Ogden) Falls, Greenville; Ray (Kathy) Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; Ben Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; Curtis (Michelle) Falls, Arcadia; sisters Cora (Phil) Hutchinson, Maine; Martha Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; Josephine (Glen Boudreau) Falls, Yarmouth; Rachel (Melburne Francis) Falls, Greenville; Marie (Curtis Ritchie) Falls, Yarmouth Reserve; grandchildren Devon; Damon; Alix; Erin; Jewel; many nieces, nephews, cousins also great nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, Frederick Hanson; sister Rosemary in infancy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, 567 Main St., Yarmouth. A memorial service will take place Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. William Crawford officiating. Interment to follow in the Greenville Cemetery. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
