Obituary for Daisy "Althea" Churchill

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, D. Althea Churchill, of Sandford, Yarmouth, NS. She passed peacefully on February 1, 2023 at the age of 95 at the Veterans Place in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Daisy Althea (Frost) Churchill was born in Beaver River, Digby Co., December 3, 1927 to Orwill Chester and Hope (Height) Frost. Her family meant the world to her. She was a devoted homemaker with a heart of gold and had an open home. She was a beloved Mother, Grammie and Great Grammie and Great-Great Grammie.

Music was a great part of mum’s life and brought her much enjoyment. She loved to laugh, sing and play the piano. She also played the guitar and an accordion; loved to read from the Bible and the Daily Bread Devotions.

Althea was a member of the former Sandford Wesleyan Church where she was honored for more than 50 Years of service as a pianist; she also participated in Children’s Ministries.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Douglas Stanley Churchill; daughter, Sharon Marritt; brothers: Clyde, Kingsley and Roy. Sisters: Lyla Perry, Leta Outhouse, Helena Tidd, Kathleen Conrad, Carole Frost.

Althea is survived by her sister, Fay Nestor, of Dayton, Yarmouth, NS. Children: Sheila Sabine (Leland) MacLeod; Crowes Mills, NS; Rev. Gary (Debbie) Churchill, Miramichi, NB; Stanley (Gabrielle) Churchill, Sandford, NS; and Son-in-law, Bruce (Pearl) Marritt, Miramichi, NB; Grandchildren; Lorenda (Joe) Ebbett, River John, NS; Rev. Kirk (Virnna) Sabine, Sussex, NB; Leah Sabine, Cape John, NS; Christopher (Shelley) Churchill, Halifax, NS; Peter (Juanita) Churchill, Williamstown, NB; Rosa (Dwayne) Goudey,
Deerfield, NS; Jessica (Jake) Churchill, Surette’s Island; Teena (Jon) Brown, St. Stephens, NB; Apryl (Trevor) Brown, Grand Manan, NB; Kimberley (Brock) Delaney, Newtonville, Ontario; Michael (Ildi) Marritt, Florida, US and by a number of great grand children whom she dearly loved.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm , February 6,2023 from the Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joyce Trask officiating. Interment will take place at Darling Lake Cemetery. A reception will follow in Jacob’s Loft Event Center above Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made to the “The Douglas Stanley Churchill Scholarship Fund) at Kingswood University, Sussex, NB or the Salvation Army.
