Obituary

COOK, Colton James – age 26, was taken from us far too soon on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Born in Yarmouth on January 4, 1994, he was the son of Shawn and Stacey (Ryerson) Cook. Colton was a lobster fisherman, a welder by trade, and did construction work with his father. He loved working on vehicles and could often be found getting his hands dirty in the shop. If his hands were clean, there was something wrong. He was kind, compassionate and wouldn't think twice about helping others, especially the elderly in the community. He adored his grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her. No matter what, he always had that big "Pennell" smile on his face. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to be in the woods fishing and hunting, particularly pheasants. Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving sister, Ashley (Andreas) Cook-Holder, Australia; grandparents, Danny and Murial Cook, Brenton; and Beverley Ryerson, Brenton; and niece, Tabitha Holder. He was predeceased by grandfather, Gordon Ryerson; uncle, Wilson Ryerson; cousin, Jennifer Rozee. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at 2 p.m. from New Life Church with Rev. Larry Pennell officiating. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a limited number of seats will be available in the church for immediate family and close friends. Speakers will be set up outside for those who wish to attend but cannot be inside. The service will be live-streamed from Sweeny's Funeral Home Facebook Page. Donations in memory may be made to the Hilltop Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Colton's friends, and the community, for all the support they have shown the family during this difficult time. It is truly appreciated. Online condolences may be sent to sweenysfh@eastlink.ca, or you may sign the guest book online at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net

Dear Stacey, Shawn, Ashley and Family,

Colton grew up as a neighbor, and it was a joy to see him mature as a wonderful young man. He did several jobs for myself and my husband. Always respectful and kind. He was a very good worker and always gave good hugs. He will be missed by all. My sincere love and condolences.

Shawn, Stacey, Ashley and the rest of Colton's family, we are so sorry you have to go through this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you face the hard days ahead. Colton would make his appearance in the garage when he couldn't figure something out for himself. We are going to miss seeing him around. Our community has lost a nice, respectable young man way too soon. Gene and Linda Hayes

I met Colton a few years ago when he started doing construction work with his father and uncle. I was impressed with his work habits from the start. Colton and his father had built a great team. They can work together like a machine. Colton was serious and mature for his age and always made time to say a kind word or greet others no matter how busy he was. Colton made a great impression from day one. I remember you Colton working on my properties on regular basis and always did great work, but I remember you the most, the day of the Hurricane last year. I needed help with a fallen tree so I called Shawn and they all came in and saved the day. I remember Colton climbing on walls and up on the roof. I asked him to be careful and he answered that he is taking good precaution....That is the image that I see each time I think of Colton. His personable approach and great respect that he shows to everyone around him, made him stand up in the crowd. He has the type of soul that leaves a great impression on those who met him in this world....
It does not matter how long you spend on earth to leave your mark. Some succeed in a very short time and move on to the next adventure.....
Now Colton has started a new journey. His soul will continue to spread happiness and comfort to others. I wish Colton a great new journey filled with love and a great new life.
I will remember you Colton. We will miss you here.
