Obituary for Cindy Lee Whittaker

WHITTAKER, Cindy, 64. It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother on February 7, 2023. Born in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of father, Howard Whittaker (Ruth Thompson) and mother, the late Phyllis Whittaker (Trask). Cindy worked for 38 years at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital as a CCA and after retirement she continued her passion of caring for others. She loved her boys – Jake & Graham and loved being a grandmother. If you were fortunate to call Cindy your friend, you had managed to find your way into her heart and once there you had a friend for life. She cherished her time spent with her friends from the hospital and loved going out for lunch with them. In her later years, she made great friends with co-workers from YACRO and loved making delicious meals for them. We all know that she was a little bit gruff around the edges, but she had a heart of gold. She loved spending time with her family at the camp on Sundays & bringing one of her amazing pies, everyone had their favourite. Besides baking she was an amazing cook, she loved cooking for her friends and family and made delicious rappie pies and cabbage rolls. Cindy enjoyed going on adventures with her many friends and often went on road trip adventures with Susan Whittaker – sometimes lost in areas without cell service because Cindy would always say “just keep turning right”. Cindy is survived by sons, Jake (Angela) Buchanan, Kingston, and Graham (Sarah) Surette, Halifax; grandchildren Andrew Buchanan and Scarlett Surette; brothers Larry (Linda), Robbie (Mary Rose); sister Susan (Kent) and sister-in-law Susan Whittaker. Cremation has taken place at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth, N.S and burial will be at Chegoggin Baptist Church cemetery later in the year. There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, February 17th, 2023, from 4-7pm at South Ohio Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yarmouth SPCA or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
