Obituary for Catherine " Tingy" Jackson

Catherine (Tingy) Jackson Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

We are sad to announce the passing of Catherine (Tingy) Jackson on June 1,2020 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney NS on September 30,1928 to Mary and Neil MacNeil. She graduated from Holy Angels Convent in Sydney NS. She then studied Commerce and went to work for the Dept. of Health for approximately one year. After her children were grown, she went to work for the Dept. of Agriculture for 15 years. She was an accomplished secretary applying her typing and shorthand skills.
She moved to Yarmouth to be with her husband Lyman Jackson in 1950. She always held love for her Cape Breton roots and her Scottish heritage. She could often be heard singing and using the odd Gaelic phrase.
Tingy enjoyed sewing, quilting, but first and foremost she loved baking, entertaining and hosting the ladies for tea. She was renowned for her abilities in the kitchen especially her apple pies and lobster casserole. Over the years she truly enjoyed her many close friends and the social times they shared. She enjoyed spending time with family at the lake and later Sebim Beach. She loved to dress for any occasion showing her excellent taste for fashion.
Tingy was an active member of St. Ambrose Parish. She was a past president and 50-year member of CWL in Yarmouth and was also a Paul Harris Fellow sister.
Catherine was the youngest of five girls and two brothers. She was predeceased by brother, Jimmie (Ontario); Joe (Pennsylvania); sisters, Elizabeth MacLean (Sydney); Terry Boudreau (Chester); Germaine Gibson (Winnipeg); Florence Ley (Sydney).
Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Lyman.
They raised four children, Brendan (Kathy), New Glasgow; Libby (Gerry) Purdy, Yarmouth; Paul (Debbie), Yarmouth; Sandy (Linda), Yarmouth.
Tingy was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Melanie (Dave) Telka, Ottawa; Lana (Colin) Boyd, Antigonish; Jared (Ashley) Purdy, Yarmouth; Ashley (Ryan) Corkum, Yarmouth; Cole (Sarah) Jackson, St. John; Drew (Mandy) Jackson, Yarmouth.
Tingy treasured her nine great grandchildren, Jackson; Eva; Grey; Noah; Lilah;Callie; Weston; Jake, and Emma.
Sincere thank you to the Meadows staff for their care and kindness. To the nursing staff of 3 East, a special thank you for their special care during her final hours.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A graveside service will be held June 18th at 11:00 am from Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Memorial donations may be made in memory to the CWL or purchase of a mass card in her memory.
