LANGFORD, Bertha Margaret — age 94, of the Villa St Joseph du Lac, Yarmouth Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter Rachel by her side on December 15, 2021. Born in Weymouth Falls on August 21, 1927, she was the youngest of 10 children to Howard and Lottie (Robart) Langford.
Bertha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She took great pride as a homemaker in raising her children and other extended family and community members. Bertha was a devoted member of Temple United Baptist Church and belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was known as a spitfire, feisty and petite L’itl woman, with a great sense of humor, who loved music, dancing and praising the Lord loudley. There was never a dull moment when Bertha was around with countless memories of good times being made by all that knew her. She was always upbeat, positive, and the life of the party. She attended A.U.B.A dinners, and church gatherings both in Nova Scotia and at Union United Church in Montreal. She was also a member of the Little Burgundy community in Montreal. She was also the oldest member of the Yarmouth and Greenville black community.
Survived by her sons: Francis (Irene) and Norman; daughters, Beatrice Rose (Chris), Rachel (Fells); Grandchildren: Saline (Chris), Courtney (Melanie), Kayla, Olivia and Randal, Jared, Felix, and a host of great and great-great grand children.
Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband Durlin Berry Langford and children: Luna, Durline, Theresa and Vincent. She was the last surviving member of her siblings Goldie, Millie, Estella, Geraldine, Arthur, Raymond, Wendell, Richard and Eric.
Funeral arrangements and service will be conducted by Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium at 567 Main Street, Yarmouth, NS B5A 1J6 .The service will be Sunday, Dec 19 2021 @ 2PM officiated by Rev. Alden Fells. Donations in memory may be made to the Mount Beulah Baptist Cemetery or Sam Langford Community Center. Interment will take place in Mount Beulah Baptist Cemetery in Weymouth Falls, NS. At a later date. A celebration of her life TBD on or around summer of 2022.
