Obituary for Bella Lynch

Bella Lynch
With sadness, we share that our mother passed peacefully on February 3, 2020, at Northwood in Halifax, NS.
Bella was born in 1925 in Saint John, NB. Shortly after, her family—parents Pearl and Samuel Pont and her six siblings—moved to Montreal where she spent her youth. In Montreal, she met her dashing husband Hubert Lynch who studied music at McGill University. They married in Montreal in 1947 and later settled in Yarmouth, NS. In Yarmouth, Bella was an avid bridge player, a social butterfly, and a fabulous Jewish cook. She relished long kitchen sessions labouring over varenikis (perogies), knishes, and blintzes for her family to devour. Thank goodness, we have her recipes.Hubert passed in 1983, leaving Bella a widow at 58. Three years later Bella moved to Toronto to be close to two of her daughters. There, she developed and enjoyed a steady companionship with Al Goorevitch. In 2006, Bella began losing short-term memory. Unflinching through her dementia, she developed a wonderful upbeat personality and wicked sense of humour. Consequently, she was loved by the community at Forest Hill Retirement Home in Toronto, always dancing her way through music programs as the “Bella of the Ball”. In November 2018, Bella moved to Halifax, NS, close to where most of her family now reside. There, she lived at Evan Hall and then Northwood. Bella is survived by her three daughters, Renee Lyons (Gareth Harding), Roseann Fine (David), Patti Durkee (Tom). She was a wonderful Bubby to her six grandchildren, Tahir (Barbi), Natalie, Adam (Marla), Jordan (Jules), Haley, and Jillian, and Great Bubby to Aaliyah and Eleanor. Bella will be buried in Yarmouth at a private family service. Donations to the IWK Hospital in Halifax or PCD Foundation would be appreciated.Online condolences may be sent to: sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
