Obituary for Alice Marie Adeline Surette

Surette, Alice Marie Adeline (née d’Eon) age 103 of Lower West Pubnico died peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on August 11, 2022, with her daughter by her side. Born in East Boston Massachusetts on December 8, 1918, she was the eldest daughter of Reuben and Elvira d’Eon. Alice moved back to Pubnico with her family when she was 5 years old where she went to school until grade 9 à l’école du sud. At the age of 17 because of a lack of work in NS, she returned to Massachusetts to work at Simmons College and was also a nanny in a private home. By 1939 she was employed with GE in Lynn Mass. working on an assembly line with electric power meters, continuing that work until 1941 when WW2 was declared in the US and the GE building was converted to war work. She met Peter Surette in 1942 and married on December 26, 1944. They lived a short time in NS and then moved back to Lynn Mass in 1949 where she worked at GE on panel instruments for airplanes. In 1976 Alice & Peter were both retired and returned to Pubnico to enjoy their golden years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary West Pubnico Legion and a member of the Nouveau Horizon. She was a great lover of flowers and enjoyed spending time doing her gardening as well as knitting and doing crafts. In addition, she was an avid sports fan of the Bruins and Penguins as well as the Red Sox and Patriots. She loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and doing crossword puzzles, inspiring us all with her sharp mind, quick wit and love of life. She also loved music and was a great dancer always dancing to the beat.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and son-in-law Bill Pointer, Ocala Florida; grandson, Derek Surette, New Hampshire; granddaughter, Dina Powell, Peabody Mass.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Surette, Vermont; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Hilda d’Eon and Celina Le Blanc, both of Middle West Pubnico; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Peter Surette; son, Harold Surette; 2 children in infancy; brother, Wallace d’Eon; infant brother, Paul d’Eon; sisters, Marion d’Entremont and Doris d’Entremont.

The family would like to thank her neighbours who helped her while she was at home, Le Pont du Marais, Dr. Loveridge and all the Drs and nurses who cared for her while she was in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

Alice was a beautifully talented, strong woman, who touched so many lives and brought us over 103 years of wisdom and experience. She was and still is an inspiration to us all as an example of a long life well lived. You are loved and will be greatly missed.
