Obituary for Alester Patten Bain

Alester Patten Bain

Husband of the late Mary Bain passed away peacefully on Monday November 20th, 2023, at the Meadows Home for Special Care at the age of 99 .

Born on June 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Alice (Trask) Bain.

Alester spent a lot of his life working with his hands. From working on the farm as a young boy, the flower gardens for Don Raymond, to sorting packages for Sears, but his greatest strength was using his sharp mind. Throughout most of his life he made sure that he read everyday, and he ended every night by writing in his diary. Collecting stamps, coins and money always brought a smile to his face and he was delighted to know he had a banker in the family.
Alester was proud of all his family. Dad to Doris (Eric), Benny (Doris) and Glenn (Mandy). Papa to Tanya (Mark), Jeff (Amy) and Patten, Kirby (Mackenzie), Cameron and Michael. He also had several special step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mary.
He was always happy when all the family arrived for Sunday supper and joked about getting the biggest piece of chocolate cake for dessert.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and the Wellington Lamp Lighters.

The last 9 years Alester’s family grew to also include the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Meadows, they cared for, loved and spent many hours sharing stories, music and laughter with him.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.

Donations in memory of Alester can be made to the Meadows Recreation Department or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
