Obituary for Adeline Bridget Cook

It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Adeline Bridget Cook in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on August 11,2020 at the age of 104. Adeline passed away peacefully with niece Sharon by her side. She was very close to her 105th birthday.
Adeline was born in Melbourne, the daughter of Mathieu Fitzgerald and Julienne (Muise) Fitzgerald. She worked at the Cotton Mill and later trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne for 30 years on the Maternity ward. She described those years at Roseway Hospital as the “happiest years of her life”.
Adeline retired in 1982 and returned to Yarmouth with her sister, Elizabeth. She moved to 109 Parade Street (Mountain View Manor) and lived there for 26 years. She made many friends at the Manor over the years. Adeline was a social person and reminisced about old times. She was a kind and very generous person. Always thinking of others.
Adeline loved nature and had a passion for gardening and growing flowers. Over the years, she won prizes for her flowers. She loved music and was a faith- filled person.
Adeline is survived by niece/ caregiver, Sharon Trefry, Yarmouth; sister, Isabelle Jordan, Toronto; nieces, Geraldine Leblanc, Wedgeport; Audrey Burke (Larry), Arcadia; June Muise (Sylvester), Quinan; nephews, Eldon Bowers (Carol), Arcadia; Merle Bowers (Elaine), Ireton. She has many more nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Also, lifelong friends, Helen Atkinson; Brad and Betty Scott, Baccaro.
Adeline was predeceased by husband, Joseph Heber Cook; Son, Robert; sisters, Ethel Bowers; Elizabeth Trefry; Charlotte Muise; Toni Evans; brothers, George Fitzgerald; Alphonse Fitzgerald; Benoit Fitzgerald; nephews, Raymond Bowers and niece, Hilda Winters.
Sharon and family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 3 east, Yarmouth Regional Hospital, as well as Dr. Sehl and Dr. Sood for their kind and compassionate care. Also, Yarmouth/ Argyle Home Support Agency for their care over the years.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 6-8 pm with prayers at 7pm. Funeral mass will take place, Friday, August 14,2020 at 10 am from the St Ambrose Co Cathedral. Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment to following in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, Our lady of Calvary Cemetery or Charity of your Choice.
